Hāpi is the Maori word for hop, and we have here another beautiful example of a Pacific pale ale from our friends across the water. Boy do they do this style well. Brewed with New Zealand barley and Kiwi hops including Motueka, Wai-iti, Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin, this exceptionally drinkable brew is a bright golden colour and delivers a crest of white foam. A powerful tropical fruit aroma serves up mango, lychee and pineapple and the fruit cocktail delivers again in the taste. The sweetness up front is met and tempered by a lingering hop bitterness. In fact this is pretty hoppy all round for a pale ale but not so aggressively that it doesn’t go down a treat time and time again. It’s all about hapi daze after all – a refreshing, sessionable ale to share with mates as the sun sets on the Pacific.
